Trail Overview

The New River Trail spans 16.5 miles through Maricopa County, paralleling the New River across Glendale and Peoria in Arizona. It’s entirely paved, making for smooth and uninterrupted travel, with safe under crossings at every road intersection. The trail is designated as a greenway/non-RT, ideal for leisurely walks, biking, and exploring the suburban landscape.

Trail Features

Starting in Glendale at W Bethany Home Rd & N 107th Ave and ending north of W Carlota Ln & N 76th Dr in Peoria, the trail offers easy access to neighborhoods, businesses, and parks. In Glendale, it connects to the vibrant Westgate Entertainment District, University of Phoenix Stadium (home of the Arizona Cardinals), and Gila River Arena (home of the Arizona Coyotes) via a short on-road route along W Glendale Avenue.

Rio Vista Community Park

In Peoria, the trail passes Rio Vista Community Park, featuring a central lake and amenities like a skate park, splash park, picnic areas, athletic fields, drinking fountains, and restrooms. Here, the Skunk Creek Trail branches off, providing access to northern neighborhoods of Peoria and Glendale, as well as connecting to the longer Arizona Canal Path.

For convenient access, ample parking is available at Rio Vista Community Park (8866 W Thunderbird Road) in Peoria and at the new trailhead in Fletcher Heights, located west of 75th Ave and Deer Valley Road.
